Who are Precious Counselling and Mentoring?
With the demand for psychological services for children currently stretched to maximum capacity, current services are struggling, overstretched and fragmented with long waiting times and complex referral systems, which concentrate on providing support services when problems have already arisen or at crisis point. Therefore, young people are falling through the net. With the increase in violent crime and child sexual exploitation within our local communities, it is time to try and do something about it.
Precious Counselling and Mentoring is a Community Interest Company (CIC) established in May 2018 and based in the London Borough of Enfield. Some young people are struggling to make the right decisions and have no one to turn to for help, to enable them to make positive choices and encourage them to reach their potential. Therefore, our aim is to provide support to children, young people and their families, to enable them to make more positive decisions, affecting future outcomes for themselves and improving our community.
Aims and Objectives
- To provide aspirational and positive support and encourage engagement in activities to help them make positive choices, improving their life chances.
- Provide alternative options to children and young people most at risk of getting involved in negative social behaviour and criminality.
- Improve their social skills and perception of self by establishing future goals and outcomes.
- Identifying strengths using a solution focused framework to build self-esteem and confidence in the ability to achieve.
- Provide tier 2 counselling to adults on low incomes and their children/young people before they reach crisis point.
Our team of highly committed and enthusiastic counsellors and holistic mentors have a variety of experience in mentoring, youth work, supporting children and young people within schools and children’s social care. The aim always is to provide the kind of support young people need to develop a better future for themselves and improve their social skills. Helping them to avoid getting involved in criminal activity, enhancing their life chances and improving their community now and in the future.
We provide Counselling, Mentoring, Creative Therapy and Advocacy services to support you or someone you know
Our holistic mentoring approach uses the Solution-Focused Brief Therapy model and focuses on their strengths, offering them a more positive perception of self and their future life chances. We work with them at home or within their local community.
We use the Person-Centred approach during counselling, to help individuals manage their anxieties and emotional issues much better and maintain overall well-being; this may involve utilising elements of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Psychodynamic, Gestalt, Solution Focused Brief Therapy and Creative Therapy where it is felt most beneficial to the client’s needs. Once the mind is able to work more effectively, this can restore self-esteem, help repair relationships and assist in maintaining general well-being and more fulfilling life.
